HISTORY

Has its origins in the Muslim farmstead Oloron. The documented history begins in the s. XIII, from the conquest of Mallorca, and revolves around his castle. During the occupation Catalan Kingdom of Majorca, resisted in the Castle of Alaro.
Guillem Cabrit and Guillem Bassa, that after capture, were sentenced by King Alfons roasted over hot coals to die, as indicated by the name of one of the defenders of the castle, which had no resistance during the acknowledged king of the Kingdom of Mallorca Alfons invader. |

ECONOMY

With regard to agriculture, it is worth to note that the extension of the municipality is primarily forest (pine, oak ...). For crops, provided by extension, the most important are (in this order): olive, almond, carob and fig trees. It should be added that agriculture is predominantly rainfed. Livestock is also important in Alaro, emphasizes also in this order: herd sheep, pigs, and one might. It must be added the presence of a poultry farm for the production of eggs for sale. |
As for the fiestas, they are commemorated annually in honor of the Patron of the town, San Roc; his feast day is August 16. Along with San Roc, are co-patrons of Alaró Sant Antoni and Sant Sebastia. But they also celebrate other holidays such as Sant Pere (held in the trendy Los d'Amunts) and Sant Antoni (with bonfires and blessed). Finally, in this section indicate that there are celebrations during the Christmas and Easter, when processions are especially prominent in the Palm Sunday, Thursday and Friday, and traditionally found occurring at 8 am on the day of Easter, and after which it is customary to eat Easter mallorquí frit, with pies and robiols in celebration of the Resurrection of Christ.
Also noteworthy pilgrimage twice a year to make the inhabitants of Alaro Castle to celebrate Mass near the Mare de Deu del Refugio (one, the Sunday after Easter and again in September).
One of the most important economic activities in Alaro has been, and still somehow (despite the crisis), the footwear industry, which in its moments of glory came to keep active for more than 30 factories and 2,000 people .
